323-home East Cleveland scheme approved at Skelton
A major East Cleveland housing development has been given the go-ahead, paving the way for hundreds of new homes in Skelton.
Barratt Homes has secured reserved matters approval to develop a 17.8-hectare site to the east and west of Saltburn Lane. The 323-home scheme is one of the largest residential consents in Redcar & Cleveland this year.
Building east of the Tees
The approval adds to an active summer for housing across the Tees Valley, with a 243-home scheme at Wynyard Park passed days later and work starting on a £9m bungalow development in Middlesbrough's Thorntree. Between them, the schemes point to several years of sustained housebuilding activity on both banks of the Tees.
What it means for local trades
A development of this scale runs for years and generates work well beyond the site hoardings. New households need blinds, flooring, garden landscaping, fencing and driveways, and the first wave of snagging and warranty work follows quickly behind completion. Trades based in East Cleveland and the east side of the conurbation are well placed to pick up both site packages and the after-market work that follows.
