Work starts on £9m bungalow scheme in Middlesbrough's Thorntree
Work has started on a £9m development that will deliver 40 new affordable-rent homes in the Thorntree area of Middlesbrough.
The scheme is led by housing provider Thirteen in partnership with RE:GEN North East, with support from Homes England. It will deliver 39 two-bedroom bungalows, a housing type in short supply locally and particularly sought after by older tenants looking to downsize.
Part of a wider building programme
The Thorntree start is one of several residential schemes moving forward across the Tees Valley this summer, alongside approvals at Wynyard and East Cleveland. For local trades, affordable housing programmes are a dependable source of steady work: every new home needs roofing, first and second fix electrics and plumbing, plastering, joinery and landscaping.
Bungalow schemes are also typically faster to complete than flatted developments, which means a quicker turnaround of phases and a more continuous flow of subcontractor packages.
